I’d been wanting to try Reuben Hills for a while, but the polarised and divided online reviews had always put me off. Luckily, Jen and I seemed to have visted Reuben Hills on a good day.

What I loved: The ambiance.
Will I come back: Yes.
The cafe has a light industrial/warehouse styled decor.
Completed with a roller garage door at the back letting in some daylight – I thought it’s a clever touch.
The menu.
Broken Omelette Roll with fried shrimp and bacon jam, $14. The deconstructed omelette was soft and moist, just the way I like it. The bacon jam and seasoning gave it a sweet after-taste. I usually don’t like my main course too sweet, so I would recommend sharing this with another person if you’re like me.
The shrimp crackers on the side were nice, it’s the type that’s hard and with a strong shrimp taste.
Really Fucking Great Fried Chicken with chilli in a basket, $18. Um, pardon my language but yep that’s the name of the dish. The fried chicken was scrumptious, take my words for it because I actually already had lunch before we came here in the afternoon, but I still enjoyed it very much. Having said that, was it foul-mouth inducing good? I’ll leave it for you to decide.
A close-up of the chicken. The winning recipe: moist and tender meat + thin and crispy skin.
In case you’re wondering, it wasn’t chilli at all, not even the sauce. I think the “chilli” in the name refers to the actual green chilli served with the chicken (which, wasn’t spicy either).
Almond and macadamia milk capp, $5. I’d never tried almond & macadamia coffee before. Well, I like almond and I like macadamia, so I thought I’d give it a go. Mmm, I should have stuck to my normal milk coffee…
We were too full from our meal so we decided to come back for the sweets next time. I do have a separate stomach for dessert, it’s just that I stuffed both of my stomachs with lunch x 2 that day…
The fancy ceiling looking through to second floor.
