Every Sydney University student and alumni has a favourite Thai restaurant in Newtown. The lunch time competition in Newtown is fierce, with all of the Thai restaurants offering dirt cheap and big portion of food for the hungry Uni students. Thai La-Ong is the closest Thai restaurant from Usyd’s Camperdown campus so Mike used to come here with his Eng friends all the time.

What I loved: The portion. Value for money.
Will I come back: Yes.
Laksa with spicy and sour soup and vegetables, $10.50. Thai laksa is very different than the Mayalsian laksa. I like both of them, but I feel Thai laksa is more suitable for summer because it’s got a refreshing sour taste.
Curry puff (deep fried, mixed chicken and vegetable in crispy pastry served with sweet chili sauce), $6.9. It didn’t have as much curry taste as I had hoped.
Chicken Khao Pad (fried rice), $10.90. I like how it’s flavourful and not too wet. Such a big portion as well!
Thai La-Ong’s menu.
Lunch special = $7, very cheap for a big plate of stir-fried noodle or fried rice.
