I would have never stepped foot in O Organic Produce Cafe if it wasn’t for Julie. For starters, I am skeptical about the supposed benefits of organic food. Also, the first word the pops up into my head when I see the word “organic” is “expensive”. And more importantly, the shopfront and signage of O Organic Produce Cafe fades compared with the other hipster and flashy cafes on Crown Street.
After today, I kicked myself for not discovering this place sooner.

On their website, they proudly states that they are Sydney’s first certified organic cafe since 2004. Cool. Apart from the food, there were also shelves of organic products at the front of the cafe for purchase.
The Menu.
$12 for a smoothie!? Outrageous, who would buy this!?
…We did.
Green Smoothie (kale, spinach, parsley, mint, celery, cucumber, apple, flaxseed, camu camu, coconut water), $12. A blogger has to blog! Plus, dad paid for the meal;)
The verdict: Fresh and clean. It is definitely something you can recreate at home (they practically give you the recipe), but it would be a waste if you buy all the ingredients and only use a little of everything. I guess $12 is justifiable if you think of it that way.
Healthy looking juice and fresh young coconuts.
We sat right next to the kitchen upstairs. To my relief, it was neither noisy nor greasy.
Steak Sandwich (with roasted beetroot, tomato, roquette, feta, spiced tomato chutney, seeded mustard on sourdough), $16.5.
(Today’s Special) Beef Burger.
What a delight. The medium rare beef patty was juicy and full of natural flavours. To make the beef this rare, they must be very confident in the quality of their meat – and so they should.
Ali’s Balinese Fried Rice (vegetables, tofu, garlic, chilli & fried egg), $17.5. Indonesian fried rice for brunch at a cafe? Interesting, but really?
I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional execution of this dish. Highly recommended especially if you want something more substantial.
Buckwheat and Cacao Pancakes (with banana, ricotta, date butter and agave blueberry syrup)(gf & sugar free), $15.5. Oh yes, it tasted even better than it looked.
The banana flavoured pancakes came with just a hint of chocolate from the cacao, and it combined incredibly well with the syrup and pieces of fresh fruit. Not too sweet, not too heavy – just right.
