Mr Bao is now my go-to place in the CBD when I feel like a quick Asian dose of goodness.
So what sort of “bao” does Mr Bao do? Mr Bao has successfully infused popular Vietnamese and Japanese elements to the iconic Taiwanese street food – Gua Bao!

The lunch-time rush. The line generally dies down after 1pm.
Mr Bao’s menu.
Left: Crackling Pork Belly Gua Bao. The crackling was really crunchy and not over oily.
Right: Chicken karage Gua Bao. Mr Bao’s chicken karage was one of the best in Sydney – crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside.
The baos were one for $6, two for $11. No cheap, but the meat-to-bao ratio was very generous.
Left: Char Siu Bao, $3.50. I would just stick with the Gua Baos.
Asian Slaw with choice of Karage Chicken, $10. A wonderful mess! Highly recommended.
You can also have this with crispy tofu ($10), crackling pork belly ($10), tempura prawn ($12) and soft shell crab ($12).
Sweet Potato Fries with spicy aioli sauce, $5. Hands down, my favourite potato fries in town – must order!
Lychee Coconut and Mint Slushie, $5.50.
