I have always loved pick-you-own fruit farms. I cannot quite put my finger on why I enjoy it so much, but there is something theraupedic about fruit-picking that brings me happiness.
Our first stop after we landed in Hobart was to visit the Sorell Fruit Farm.
My favourite cherries were in season! The lady at the counter showed us this map of the farm and told us to start from the strawberries (on the right hand side), then move onto cherries (middle towards the end) and leave the berries (front left hand side) to the last.
The price guide. You can pick as much fruit as you want as long as they fit in a punnet.
Here we go!
We went towards the very end of the strawberry season. The strawberries were…
…pretty hopeless.
We didn’t waste much time here. We moved straight to cherries.
How cute were these cherry trees!
These pink cherries were mini, but surprisingly sweet and juicy.
Although it looked like we had already filled this punnet, there was actually quite some space left under the lid – we could have filled at least 30 more cherries with that space.
Now, onto the berries. They were very tricky to pick as they were extremely fragile and juicy. The trick is to hold on to it gently yet tightly, and then give it a little twist.
We picked silvanberries, boysenberries, tayberries, loganberries. I had never heard of half of them. The berries all looked strikingly similar…I thought I got them all figured out at the farm, but when I looked at the photos again, I couldn’t tell them apart anymore. I think these were silvanberries?
Me picking…tayberries?
Blueberries, is that you? Too bad the they were not in season yet, I would have loved to munch on a whole punnet of blueberries.
Our sweet reward. As you can see, we filled them right to the top of the lid. Skills.
The cafe at the front of the farm sold all sorts of jam and served light meals.

Berry tea, cherries for breakfast, cherries and berries on the go, cherries and berries after lunch and cherries and berries after dinner. These lasted us our whole trip! I had never eaten so much cherries and berries in my whole life. Needless to say, I was berry berry satisfied.
