The Big Stone is a small and cozy neighbourhood gem that offers an interesting fusion of Japanese cuisine + Spanish tapas. I was skeptical at first, but soon pleasantly surprised by how the seemingly unrelated concepts worked perfectly well together.

The welcome message was a lovely touch, so was the white sangria!
Big Stone’s cute hand drawn menu. The “top ten dishes” page was particularly helpful.
Tempura zucchini flower (salted cod & mush potato with aioli), $6.8 each. The tempura was not greasy and lightly fried so that it maintained the freshness of the zucchini flower stem.
Ocean trout tacos, $7.8/each. No wonder it was the number one popular dish on the menu. Delicious!
“Try it once!! you will be back for more!!”
Takosen, $3.8/each.
“Sydney’s original takoyaki with crackers! Squeeze and eat em plz!!”
(Squeeze) I loved it!
Tomato bread (fresh tomato & garlic spread on bread), $7.2. This was the only disappointment of the night.
Big Stone style yakitori, $12.
Paella 24cm, $48. The perfect demonstration of Spanish and Japanese fusion.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the food and can’t wait to return again. Given the nature of tapas, the portion was not big. But boy it was worth every cent!
Special thanks to Christine (my new trusted source) for the recommendation.
