The Big Stone is a small and cozy neighbourhood gem that offers an interesting fusion of Japanese cuisine + Spanish tapas. I was skeptical at first, but soon pleasantly surprised by how the seemingly unrelated concepts worked perfectly well together.
【Sydney Food】Sokyo breakfast buffet
I have never had a better breakfast buffet in Sydney than Sokyo’s. For $38, you get a continental buffet, an a la carte dish and tea/coffe. Yes, Sokyo’s breakfast buffet is worth every cent of your money.
【Sydney Food】Mr Bao (Sydney CBD)
Mr Bao is now my go-to place in the CBD when I feel like a quick Asian dose of goodness.
So what sort of “bao” does Mr Bao do? Mr Bao has successfully infused popular Vietnamese and Japanese elements to the iconic Taiwanese street food – Gua Bao!
【Sydney Food】O Organic Produce Cafe
I would have never stepped foot in O Organic Produce Cafe if it wasn’t for Julie. For starters, I am skeptical about the supposed benefits of organic food. Also, the first word the pops up into my head when I see the word “organic” is “expensive”. And more importantly, the shopfront and signage of O Organic Produce Cafe fades compared with the other hipster and flashy cafes on Crown Street.
After today, I kicked myself for not discovering this place sooner.
【Sydney Food】Pu’er .::Beautiful tea and Chinese food with a Western twist::.
When I was first introduced to Pu’er, I was told that this is a restaurant that specialises in “modern and traditional Asian food, with a western flair“. Well…as someone that has an Asian background and truly appreciates authentic Chinese food, that was, frankly, a little worrying — until I actually tasted their food.
【Sydney Food】Ms.G’s
We finally went to Ms.G’s.
I had heard good things about this place, and I had expected it to be good since it’s been awarded one chef’s hat three years in a row from 2012. However, I had always put off coming here because: I always have my doubts when I see “Asian fusion“. As an Asian, those two words usually translate to “overpriced“, “small portion” and “unauthentic” to me — Fortunately, Ms.G’s was none of those things. I left Ms.G’s feeling utterly satisfied and very impressed.
