My philosophy is, if I want to indulge in something deep fried and calories loaded, for example fish’n’chips, I only want to eat from the best. If you are like me, Bottom of the Harbour (also known as balmoral beach fish’n’chips) is the answer to your cheat day.
【Sydney Food】Watson Bay Hotel fish’n’chips
This was the second piece of fish’n’chips we had that day.
After reading inconclusive articles and blogs on where to get the best fish’n’chips at Watson Bay, Mike and I set ourselves on a quest to find out whether it is Watson Bay Hotel or Doyles. We had a clear winner.

【Sydney Food】Mr Bao (Sydney CBD)
Mr Bao is now my go-to place in the CBD when I feel like a quick Asian dose of goodness.
So what sort of “bao” does Mr Bao do? Mr Bao has successfully infused popular Vietnamese and Japanese elements to the iconic Taiwanese street food – Gua Bao!
【Sydney Food】Doyles Fishermans Wharf (Watson Bay)
Doyles at Watson Bay is a big name in the Sydney seafood restaurant scene. I had heard good things about the fish’n’chips here and I know that the fish’n’chips at Doyles Fishermans Wharf are on the “To-Do List” of many travelers visiting Sydney. Some even dubbed Doyles as having the best fish’n’chips in Sydney.
Unfortunately, we were left rather disappointed. Did we come on a bad day? Maybe. Are we coming back? No.
【Sydney Food】Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken
As a proud Taiwanese, I am too familiar with the Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken. I had been waiting for it to come to Sydney ever since it first opened shop in Melbourne in 2013. When it finally came in early 2014, the usual greetings in our Taiwanese circle was immediately replaced by “Did you see/Have you tried/Did you like Hot-Star?”
