I have to admit, I never had cravings for pies or sausage rolls until I had them at Central Baking Depot. I thank this unassuming bakery in Sydney CBD for making me (finally) understand why meat pies are considered the “national dish” in Australia.
The best part? They have soup in winter!

Their indoor seating, a fantastic place of solace in this concrete jungle.
Spinach + artichoke + ricotta pie, $5.50.
Beef pie, $5.8. They change their beef pie recipe every once in a while. Sometimes with mushroom, sometimes with potatoes, and sometimes with tomatoes.
Pie Special of the day – Chicken pancetta, mushrooms, truffle oil + kipfler and white bean, $8.50.
A large scoop of potato mash on top of the already generously sized pie. The mash wasn’t as mushy as I had hoped.
Pork and Fennel Sausage Roll, $4.80. Look at the generous serving!
Never a fan of sausage rolls, until today.
If you are not a fan of pork rolls, try their delicious Chicken and Shallots Roll, $4.80.
Ham and Cheese Croissant (toasted), $5.
The best ham and cheese croissant that I had ever had.
Soup? Shut up and take my money!
Soup of the day, came with bread.
San Francisco Clam Chowder, $14. Creamy and in a sourdough soup bowl. This was the highlight of my day!
Broccoli and feta soup. A little too salty for my liking.
How about some dessert? Yes, please!
Roasted Pear & Chocolate Frangipane tart, $4.9. A crowd-pleaser.
Caramelised Pecan Tart, $5.4.
Lemon pillow, $5.40. My favourite!
Just like biting into a cloud of soft edible pillow.
Freshly baked goodies on site.
