Fergburger, making a big name out of this small town.
Fergburger
I don’t even have to tell you where to find Fergburger. Fergburger finds you.
Pilgrims flock here, day and night, for these big, juicy, hearty burgers.
Not sure what to get? You’d never go wrong with a ‘Fergburger‘ (prime NZ beef, lettuce, tomato, red onions, aioli & tomato relish), NZ$11.
If you have the stomach for it (or, have a food sharing buddy), go the ‘Big Al‘ (double serving of prime NZ beef, lashings of bacon, a whole lot of cheese, 2 eggs, beetroot, lettuce, tomato, red onion, relish & a big wad of aioli), NZ$17.50.
Burgers for breakfast? Why not! I shared a ‘Dawn Horn‘ with a friend one morning and absolutely adored it (American streaky bacon, egg, hash brown, cheddar cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, red onion, beetroot, tomato relish & Ferg’s tarragon mayonnaise), NZ$12.50.
Fergburger is no doubt the iconic eatery in Queenstown, proudly and cheerfully serving you the ultimate comfort food from 8:30am to 5am every day. Yes, that’s right, Fergburger is open 21.5hours a day to bring happiness and joy to your stomach.
Have a bottle of the “World Famous in New Zealand” L&P soft drink with your burger, it tastes like lemonade but with a twist. Try it!
Tips:
- Try their chips together with wasabi mayonnaise or our favourite aioli, yum!
- Don’t bother with the onion rings, the serving was small and it was pretty average.
- If you’re sharing, they’d be happy to cut your burgers in half for you. Just ask them when you place your order.
- Allow at least 20-30 minutes, there’s almost always a line.

Aggy’s Shack
Now, this little fish & chips joint was tucked away nicely 2 streets from the main street, right by the Wakatipu Lake.
The service we experienced here was, well, very straightforward, almost crude. However, just like the food, there was no pretence.
Expect reasonably priced and generous servings of local seafood like fish & chips (NZ$12) and boiled mussels, 14 for NZ$12.
If you’re feeling adventurous, check out the wild kiwi food section on their chalkboard menu. The Muttonbird is a type of seabird that looks like a small chick but tastes like fish (apparently because they feed on fish). I tried it and it had a strong fish smell and was pretty oily…so you’ve gotta be game enough to try this downunder specialty!

Fergbaker
Need a Ferg infusion but Fergburger is closed? Don’t panic, Fergbaker is right next door.
Fergbaker serves up quality meat pies to-go for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper from 6:30am to 4:30am. Yep, 22 hours a day, every day!
You’ll also find bread, pastries and cakes at Fergbaker, which makes a good alternative to Cookie Time for people with a sweet tooth.
Caramelised braised pork pie.

Fishbone
“Have you ever heard of the Bluff Oysters?”
One day, I received multiple consecutive messages from my bff, L, telling me all about it: “Have you heard of bluff oysters?” “They are only available in New Zealand”, “They are only harvested from March to August each year”, “One of my blogger friends went and she loved it”, “It’s very limited even in New Zealand”…
“LET’S GO HAVE SOME BLUFF OYSTERS”, together we exclaimed.
We were lucky that Fishbone had them on the day we visited! No restaurant can guarantee that they will have bluff oysters when you visit as it’s strictly seasonal and limited in quantity.
Tips:
- Most seafood restaurants in Queenstown update their menu daily, so do check and call before you head there to see if they have the Bluff Oysters on offer.
Try the bread! Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The butter was sinfully good.
As you have probably guessed, fish is their specialty. Ask them for advice if you are not sure what to have, the waiter was very helpful when we asked for his recommendations.

Cookie Time
Cooke Time is a big timer in New Zealand and is a publicly listed company. Every time we went by this small shop, it was always packed with sugar-crazed people, grabbing packets and packets of cookies.
I bought a pack of apricot and white chocolate cookies for the office and my colleagues loved it.
However, I felt that the cookies here are a little sweet for me on its own (not to mention the ice cream sandwich as shown in the photo that was dead sweet, beware!), but would go well with a cup a tea.
