When I first came to Sydney, I couldn’t understand why my 80-year-old grandma (who has lived in Sydney many decades more than I have) would want to travel 1 hour to Cabramatta for fried chicken that’s practically sold in every Cantonese restaurant.
They kept saying the crispy skin fried chicken at Tan Viet will blow your mind.
I have to say, I came to Tan Viet with exceptionally high expectations. That day, I left with a valuable lesson to never doubt my grandma again.

What I loved: Crispy fried chicken.
Tan Viet is situated on the main street of the Cabramatta shopping strip, John Street. Finding it is easy as there is always a line. Fortunately, the turnover here is reasonably quick, I have never waited for more than 20 minutes.
You can also choose from rice noodles, egg noodles (dry or soup), glass noodles or tomato rice. The tomato rice itself is a hit-and-miss for me. I am a big fan of the rice noodles soup.
You’ll never fully comprehend how good it is until you’ve actually tried it.
Luckily, there is now also a Tan Viet in Eastwood, which offers equally wicked fried chicken much closer to us.

The crispy skin chicken is honestly the best I’ve ever had in Sydney. The only thing I don’t like here is the broth for all their soups, but that chicken makes up for it :)
mmm dat crispy skin chicken is calling to me!
