The Big Stone is a small and cozy neighbourhood gem that offers an interesting fusion of Japanese cuisine + Spanish tapas. I was skeptical at first, but soon pleasantly surprised by how the seemingly unrelated concepts worked perfectly well together.
【Sydney Food】En Casa
I have had mix feelings for En Casa. A few years ago, it was the “go-to” Spanish tapas place in the city amongst our friends. However, we stopped going for a while after we had two rather disappointing visits in a year.
We gave it another chance this year for Ju’s birthday, and I was pleasantly surprised at the food quality. Unfortunately, service was a bit lacking. Nevertheless, in all fairness, the staff were all pretty friendly when they actually noticed/remembered us.
【Sydney Food】Bodega
I’m sure everyone’s familiar with this situation: A group of friends hanging out, dinner time comes, no one can decide what to have for dinner…and then one person would say, “Pick a cuisine!”
This was exactly what we did today. We picked Spanish – and Bodega came to mind. Luckily, when we rocked up at 7pm-ish on a Saturday night, the place was only 3/4 full and we got a table straight away. I was totally blown away by the food. It’s now my favourite Spanish restaurant, although the food’s very different than the usual Spanish tapas places we have in Sydney.
