Bagels are not a common item on Aussie brunch menus. Before I stumbled upon Brooklyn Hide, I wouldn’t even know where to find them if I ever had a craving for bagels. What I like most about Brooklyn Hide is that it is not just a US bagel joint, it also offers other variations of the more “Aussie” breakfast food. It sure is a good addition to the Surry Hill cafe map.

Brooklyn Hide menu. $10 for a bagel meal, not bad at all.

Sweets at the counter.
Bagels!! There are six types of bagels here:
- Everything
- Poppy Seeds
- Sourdough Rye
- Blueberry
- Cinnamon & Raisin
- Gluten free
Mikey got the Brooklyn Hide Bagel (braised pork shoulder, dill pickles, apple jam, mayo and rocket) on sourdough rye bagel, $10.
This was a very decent sized breakfast meal for $10.
Avocado Toast (avocado, preserved lemon, spiced egg, prosciutto & sprouts on sourdough toast), $16.5.
Baked Eggs (eggs, prosciutto, potato, tomatoes, harrissa, corn salad and a bagel), $14.5.
My Potato Hash (potato, tomato chutney, spinach, eshallots, mushroom, spiced egg), $15. I really wanted to order their bagel, but I just couldn’t resist when I see potato…I was hoping for some deep fried hash browns, was a little let down when I found out that I got a bowl-full of roasted potatoes instead.
Oh well, I guess it’s healthier this way.
Erica’s apple & watermelon juice. My iced coffee (came with a scoop of ice cream).
There are only communal bar tables with high chairs here. On the bright side, sole eaters can easier enjoy their bagels and morning paper here. On the flip side, bigger groups may find it more difficult to get everyone on the same table.
It’s not a big place, but you can really tell that they had put in a lot of effort in the small details – there’s a little surprise in every corner.
