Rustic Pearl, another cute little cafe my dear friend, L, introduced me to. It’s right in the middle of one of Sydney’s buzzing brunch capital, Surry Hills.
As I enjoy cooking and do cook quite regularly, I have to admit I get more excited when I see “food that I don’t make myself” on the menu. To me, Rustic Pearl is one of those brunch spots that not only offers the usual eggs-on-toast but also something extra for picky breakfast snobs like myself.

Visited: Twice. Review based on visit on 8 June 2014 (for brunch/lunch).
Food: 7.5/10 || Ambiance: 7.5/10 || Service: 9/10
What I loved: Reservations accepted. Lemonade with fresh fruit.
What I didn’t: Bit pricey.
Will I come back: Why not.
The place is quite small with limited seatings, so I was surprised that they actually took our booking for a table of 4. Cudos to Rustic Pearl.
If only all the cafes and restaurants in Sydney would start accepting bookings. I seriously feel that, as Sydneysiders, we spend too much time in line waiting for “popular” cafe/restaurants nowadays. There must be a win-win solution for both the restaurant owners and the customers? For example, open reservations for a particular time frame (e.g. 10am-12pm for brunch and 6pm-7pm for dinner) and implement a strict cancellation policy (cancellation within 10mins of no-show), that way, spontaneous brunch-goers/diners could still just rock up whenever, whilst the organised bunch with limited time in hand could still enjoy a pre-organised meal. Win-win!
Homemade lemonade with fresh seasonal fruit, $6.5. Beautiful and healthy at the same time. With the intense competition in Surry Hills, it’s often these little touches that make a difference.
Table water topped with a fresh lemon as its cap, how cute.
Handwritten Today’s Special menu.
Today’s special, Smoked wagyu omelette with buffalo mozzarella, spinach skordalia, bacon dust, tomato relish and toast, $17.
I couldn’t really taste the “wagyu-ness” since the beef was smoked, but the omelette itself was wonderfully done to perfection.
Benedict. 2 poached organic eggs & Lucas premium bacon topped with homemade hollandaise & side of tomato relish, $18.
Florentine. 2 poached organic eggs & wilted seasonal greens topped with homemade hollandaise & side of tomato relish, $16.5.
Smoked wagyu, kapuska and parmesan, $19. It’s a rather big dish and my friend struggled to finish even half of it! The portion was somewhat reflected in the price though.
The Evil eye on the wall painting. The Gozleme on the menu. The Turkish delights in a jar.
Hmm.
It’s not hard to guess where the owners were from. (Turkey! In case you didn’t get that…)
