The Tea Cosy (formerly Tara Tea Room) has been my go-to place in The Rocks when the markets are on for the past years.
Here, you can have a set of old fashioned Devonshire Tea or a Ploughman’s Lunch, with a pot of brewed Irish tea nicely tucked in their famous knitted tea cosy. I honestly never really liked scones before I had the scones at the Tea Cosy more than 6 years ago.

What I loved: The tea cosy. The plain scones.
Will I come back: Definitely.
It’s Scone O’Clock! All their scones are baked daily on the premises by the Irish-Australian family owner.
Love their colourful tea cosies.
The cafe is at the back of the Irish Design Shop in the middle of The Rocks Market, inside a heritage listed building built in 1870. Here, you can get a sneak peek of what originally was a military residence for officers and an example of early colonial living.
It used to be a secret tea room hidden in the buzzing The Rocks Markets that only opened on weekends. However, as of 6 April 2015, they now open 6 days a week!
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays 10am-4pm
- Saturday and Sunday 9:30am-5pm
- Tuesday closed

The menu.
My Devonshire Tea, $14 per person. It comes with a pot of tea, a basket of two scones together with cream and a jam of your choice. It’s a nice and simple traditional English afternoon tea experience.
They now have cute tea cup and saucer sets to go with their cute tea cosies.
I chose the plain scones with strawberry jam.
The double thick cream and gourmet strawberry jam on warm scones, yum.
The tea cosy is a surprise every time.
<3 tea time.
