Bagels are not a common item on Aussie brunch menus. Before I stumbled upon Brooklyn Hide, I wouldn’t even know where to find them if I ever had a craving for bagels. What I like most about Brooklyn Hide is that it is not just a US bagel joint, it also offers other variations of the more “Aussie” breakfast food. It sure is a good addition to the Surry Hill cafe map.
【Sydney Food】Armory Wharf Cafe, Newington .::Water view cafe next to a playground::.
Live in the northern suburbs and want to have brunch near home with water view? Try Armory Cafe. It overlooks the Paramatta River and sits right next to a supersize playground in Newington. I wouldn’t say the food was fantastic, but the casual outdoor seating and nearby facilities made up for it.
【Sydney Food】The Boat House, Balmoral Beach
The Boat House is a beach-side gem at the Balmoral Beach, one of my favourite beaches. It’s hard not to fall in love with this charming establishment filled with abundance of exotic flowers, fresh fruits and the soothing seaside breeze.
【Sydney Food】Orto Trading Co.
Have you ever felt cheated after waiting forever for a table at a much hyped-up restaurant and the food turned out to be barely mediocre and then you hated yourself for wasting your time for nothing? Orto Trading Co is the exact opposite. I was surprised that there were no queues on both of our recent weekend visits given the overall well-rounded-ness of this cafe. Look, they even have scotch eggs!
【Sydney Food】Four Frogs Creperie, Randwick
I heard about this amazing crepes cafe in Mosman that’s always packed with a long wait. It has a very interesting name, called Four Frogs. I got very excited and looked it up online last weekend – turned out, there’s now one in Randwick as well!
Randwick is much closer and more convenient than Mosman for us, and luckily, there was no queue when we went on a Sunday early afternoon.
【Sydney Food】High Street Bakery
When I asked Ju why she picked High Street Bakery in North Willoughby for our Saturday lunch gathering with Daddy, she said: “nice food, quiet, and amazing value for money.” Ok, sold.
I was wholeheartedly impressed by, literally, everything of this buzzing suburban cafe. From the food quality, variety, portion, campos coffee, to the atmosphere. Did I mention “value for money”? We ordered this whole table of food (5 x lunch/breakfast items + 4 x coffee), and it came down to a grand total of…wait for it…$51!
【Sydney Food】Kurtosh, Surry Hills
So, these are kürtős kalács, also known as chimney cakes, sold at Kürtősh. They are traditional Hungarian pastries that are crispy on the outside, soft on the inner walls and hollow on the inside. These funky looking chimneys are not the only things sold at Kürtősh – they have a huge variety of cakes sold “by weight” here!
【Sydney Food】Reuben Hills
I’d been wanting to try Reuben Hills for a while, but the polarised and divided online reviews had always put me off. Luckily, Jen and I seemed to have visted Reuben Hills on a good day.
【Sydney Food】Paramount Coffee Project
I visited Paramount Coffee Project earlier in the year at the urge of my bestie, L. I distinctly remember how I was impressed by the decor; the tokyobike shop at the back; the food choices and my dilemma in deciding what to order, because everything looked so good on the menu. However, for some reason, the taste of the food itself didn’t make a big impression on me.
【Sydney Food】Cafe Cre Asion
Cafe Cre Asion is one of those “hidden gem” cafes, tucked away in a little alley lane, quietly waiting to be discovered. It serves light breakfast, lunch and a wide selection of colourful macarons with a Japanese twist.
